MINAS GERAIS WRAPS 2025-26 HARVEST EARLY

The 2025-26 sugarcane harvest in Minas Gerais is ending early due to a significant production shortfall. Mills had processed 71.3 million tons by late October, or 92% of the projected 77.2 million tons, which is now unattainable. Operations closed prematurely, with 70% of mills finishing by mid-November versus just 5% the previous year. A sharp 17.6% decline in agricultural productivity outweighed a 6% expansion in the harvested area. Crop quality also deteriorated, with ATR per ton down 3.2%, reducing sugar and by-product yields. Following the previous season’s record of 5.6 million tons, production is expected to decline, impacted by drought, fires, and irregular rainfall.
