BRAZIL’S BIOFUEL INDUSTRY PROPOSES AN EFFORT TO QUADRUPLE PRODUCTION BY 2035.

Brazil’s biofuel sector launched the Belém Charter at COP30, calling for a coordinated global effort to quadruple sustainable fuel production and use by 2035, following IEA guidelines. The document highlights Brazil’s 50-year ethanol experience, widespread flex-fuel adoption, and high blending levels of ethanol and biodiesel. Industry groups—Anfavea, Bioenergia Brasil, MBCBrasil and Unica—stress that bioenergy already represents 29% of Brazil’s energy matrix and argue that the global transition will require up to US$30 trillion by 2030, with US$1.3 trillion directed to sustainable fuels in developing nations. They say Brazil’s model proves ethanol is scalable, integrated into production chains, and capable of cutting emissions while generating jobs and competitiveness.
