NORTHEAST BRAZIL HANDLES OVER 65 MILLION TONNES AT PUBLIC PORTS IN NINE MONTHS

The Northeast’s public ports handled 65.1 million tonnes from January to September, driven by a 3.6% rise in solid bulk and a 2.3% increase in container volumes, according to Antaq. Soybeans led cargo flows with 13.9 million tonnes, boosting the Port of Itaqui to 28.3 million tonnes and making it the region’s largest port. Suape remained the Northeast’s main container hub with 5.5 million tonnes, despite lower liquid bulk. Other ports — Salvador, Aratu and Fortaleza — showed moderate variations. Minister Silvio Costa Filho said the results reflect infrastructure investments and the region’s growing logistics strength. Overall, solid bulk grew 3.63%, containers 2.32% and general cargo 1.30% as the government advances port modernization and capacity expansion.
