Port activity in Bahia rose 7.8% in August compared with the same month last year, marking record cargo movement of 914.8 million tonnes from January to August, up 2.8% year-on-year, according to Codeba. Growth was driven by solid bulk cargo, which surged 32.98%, particularly at the Port of Aratu-Candeias, where new terminals enabled grain and mineral handling. Codeba’s president, Antonio Gobbo, highlighted ongoing infrastructure and intermodal investments to boost logistics and competitiveness. Nationally, exports increased 3.2% in August, with strong growth in shipments to India, Mexico, Argentina, and China, offsetting a 17% drop to the U.S. Liquid bulk rose 25% to a record 32.5 million tonnes, while iron ore and corn exports climbed 11.3% and 3.4%, respectively, reinforcing Brazil’s resilience to new U.S. tariffs.
