Brazil is collaborating with Japan to promote a global pledge to quadruple sustainable fuel production by 2035, aiming to decarbonize transportation and energy systems. The initiative, to be presented at COP30 in Belém on November 6–7, targets biofuels, biogases, green hydrogen, and e-fuels, with India and Italy already signaling interest. The plan seeks to address gaps from COP28 agreements, complementing efforts to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency improvements. Accelerating sustainable fuel technologies could attract up to $1.5 trillion in investments and create 2 million jobs by 2035, according to the International Energy Agency. Brazil, a leading ethanol producer and exporter, positions the pledge as a key pillar of its COP30 Action Agenda while developing a Carbon Markets Coalition.
