BRAZIL SUPPLIED NEARLY 90% OF CHINA’S SOYBEAN IMPORTS IN 2025

China imported 12.87 million tonnes of soybeans in September, up 13% from a year earlier and marking the second-highest monthly volume since records began in 2001, according to customs data. From January to September, imports reached 86.18 million tonnes, 5.5% higher year-on-year, with Brazil supplying between 85% and 89% of the total, Commerzbank reported. U.S. soybeans accounted for just over 3% in July and less than 2% in August, as China’s 10% tariff continues to discourage purchases. Most September shipments likely came from Brazil, given that the new U.S. harvest is only starting to hit the market. Analyst Carsten Fritsch noted that the ongoing U.S.-China trade tensions are pressuring American exporters and soybean prices, though the limited price drop suggests the market still expects a potential easing of the dispute.
