DESPITE U.S. TARIFFS, BRAZILIAN AGRIBUSINESS EXPORTS CLIMB 1.5% IN AUGUST

The US imposed 50% extra tariffs in August 2025, resulting in a 17.6% year-on-year reduction in Brazilian agriculture exports to the country. Key sectors experienced severe reductions, including beef (-51.2%), coffee (-17.5%), and wood (-22%), while sugar exports fell dramatically (-92.6%). In contrast, sales of exempted products such as orange juice (+30.9%) and cellulose (+29%) increased. Despite the slump in the United States, which accounts for only 7% of Brazil’s agriculture export sales, rising demand from other international markets offset the decline. This resulted in a 1.5% yearly increase in worldwide exports, with Brazil shipping USD 111.7 billion in agricultural products between January and August 2025, slightly higher than the same period in 2024.
