The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, announced R$436.6 million in new investments for Santa Catarina’s ports during a visit to São Francisco do Sul, including over R$300 million for dredging Babitonga Bay to improve navigation and expand capacity. The state, home to six ports, now concentrates more than R$5.3 billion in public and private port projects, reinforcing its role as a logistics hub where over 20% of Brazil’s container operations take place. Additional works include R$87 million for Imbituba’s breakwater, road access upgrades, and R$12.6 million for infrastructure at São Francisco do Sul. The minister emphasized the region’s rapid growth, federal PAC program funding of over R$10 billion for ports, and the importance of public-private cooperation in boosting competitiveness, jobs, and economic development.
