BRAZIL AIMS FOR FOURFOLD BIOFUEL EXPANSION BY 2035

The Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (UNICA) emphasized a new Brazil-Japan agreement, established at a ministerial meeting in Osaka, that aims to quadruple global biofuel use by 2035. The gathering, which included delegates from 34 nations, strengthens global collaboration for energy transition and decarbonization. UNICA’s president, Evandro Gussi, stated the pact validates proven Brazilian solutions like ethanol, which has already avoided 730 million tons of CO₂. He noted Brazil’s large-scale production and infrastructure position it as a strategic leader, especially ahead of COP30 in Belém. The agreement also opens avenues for newer biofuels like biogas and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
