The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) met with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (Meti) to discuss the Initiative for Sustainable Fuels and Mobility (ISFM) and preparations for the ministerial meeting in Osaka. Brazil highlighted its leadership in biofuels and the Future Fuel Law as a regulatory milestone, while Japan presented its expectations for Brazil’s key role at COP30. Both countries stressed the complementarity between Brazil’s clean energy matrix and Japan’s expertise in high-performance mobility. Discussions included ethanol use, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), carbon capture, international biofuel trade, and sustainability certificates, alongside the Japanese interest in exporting flex-fuel hybrid vehicles. The two nations agreed to hold further meetings with public and private sectors to expand cooperation in sustainable fuels and ISFM implementation.
