Brazilian ethanol exports rose in August to 181.56 million liters, up 23.2% from July and 14.8% from August 2024, according to MDIC. Revenue reached US$99.52 million (+6.2% monthly), despite average prices falling 7.5% year-over-year to US$548.13/m³. The main destinations were the Netherlands, United States, South Korea, Nigeria, and India. From January to August, exports totaled 1.06 billion liters, 17.8% below 2024, with revenue of US$608.83 million (-16%). Tensions grew after Washington imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian ethanol in August, which could add US$90.9 million in costs annually. While U.S. purchases in August fell 7.1% from July, they were 37.5% higher than a year earlier. President Lula signaled willingness to negotiate, while Atvos’ CEO stressed the need for stable regulations to boost global competitiveness.
