According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the most recent change in the prediction for the 2023 Brazilian grain harvest was driven by greater expectations for the harvest of second-crop corn and soybeans compared to what was forecast in July. The harvest total is expected to be 313.3 million tons, up 19.0% from the 2022 harvest and 1.4% higher than the July projection, with a 4.4-million-ton increase. Wheat, corn second harvest, sugarcane, soybeans, and corn first harvest estimates have all climbed by 1.1% (117,967 tons), 2.5% (2.468 million tons) 1.7% (11.050 million tons), 1.1% (1.564 million tons), and 0.3% (92,849 million tons) respectively.
