President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree to implement a Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO) operation to support state forces in policing ports and airports, aiming to combat organized crime in the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The GLO will be specifically applied to the ports of Itaguaí (RJ) and Santos (SP) and the airports of Galeão (RJ) and Guarulhos (SP), with the collaboration of the Armed Forces in cooperation with the Federal Police. This decision was made despite Lula’s initial resistance, as he had previously stated that he would not authorize GLO in the country while he was president.
