THE BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT DISCUSSES PRIVATIZATION PROCESS OF CODEBA PORTS

The privatization process of Companhia Docas da Bahia (Codeba) took an important step on Wednesday (20) with the first meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure (Minfra), of the Special Secretariat of the Investment Partnerships Program of the Ministry of Economy, and BNDES. The discussion aims to attract investors, as well as to meet the infrastructure needs of the region. After the great success that took place in the auction of Companhia Docas do Espírito Santo, Codesa, the Ministry of Infrastructure is increasingly committed to ensuring a correct model for this process. The privatization of Companhia Docas da Bahia and the concession of the ports of Salvador, Ilhéus and Aratu-Candeias have a strategic role for the country’s infrastructure. In the first months of 2022, the three ports handled almost 3 million tons of various products, including containerized cargo, fuel, chemical products, wood, charcoal, cocoa and derivatives. The forecasts for public notice and auction are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023, with the signing of a contract in the first quarter of 2024.
