SAO PAULO: GOVERNMENT PROGRAM AIMS AT TRIPLING CORN PRODUCTION BY 2030

São Paulo’s government, as well as entities, and agribusiness companies, released on Thursday (28) a program aimed at increasing annual corn production from the current 3.3 million tons to 11 million tons by 2030. The project was announced at the international trade fair Agrishow, in Ribeirão Preto (SP). It brings together the Department of Agriculture and Supply of São Paulo, the Brazilian Association of Corn Producers (Abramilho), and the companies Corteva Agriscience, Valtra, and Yara. The “Milho + SP program” provides for the adoption of technologies in small properties to increase local production and corn cultivation in the state of São Paulo. The initiative aims to involve 100,000 farmers and achieve one million hectares. According to the consultancy Horizon Company, the state of São Paulo currently consumes 8.9 million tons of corn, and the additional 5,6 million tons are provided by other Brazilian states. According to the study, São Paulo has 15.8 million hectares for farming, with 5.4 million hectares dominated by sugarcane cultivation.
