According to Emater-RS, the soybean harvest for 2022–2023 has reached 54% of the area in Rio Grande do Sul, a weekly improvement of 22%. Due to the prior drought, the institution warned that it might still need to cut its forecast for crop output this month. Emater-RS predicted that soybean production would decline 31.1% in March, to 14.17 million tons, since crops were adversely affected by irregular or insufficient precipitation. Currently, the soybean harvest is only 1% behind that of the same period last year, when Rio Grande do Sul’s production was impacted by a drought spurred by the La Nia climate phenomena. The historical average for this period is 75%.
