MATO GROSSO DO SUL EXPORTED 1.6 MILLION TONS OF SUGAR IN 2023

Mato Grosso do Sul achieved record sugar production in 2023, reaching 2 million tons, a 55% increase from the previous sugarcane harvest. Exports of the product also broke a record, with 1.6 million tons sent abroad, generating a turnover of 846 million dollars. Sugar stood as the 4th most exported item by the state, with Algeria, Canada, and the Middle East as the primary buyers. The lack of supply from other producers in the foreign market boosted the international demand for the product. As a result, Mato Grosso do Sul became Brazil’s 5th largest sugar producer in 2023.
