National and international investors have shown interest in resuming the project to build an ammonia plant in Uberaba – Minas Gerais. The plant requires the implementation of a gas pipeline in the region. The city government has been actively working towards the resumption of the enterprise, together with the state and the federal governments. According to Rui Ramos, Uberaba’s Tourism secretary, the area of 1.86 million square meters could be used to produce other types of fertilizer in addition to ammonia, in order to make the investment viable. The pipeline does not necessarily have to be built by the same company that will take the facility over. The secretary points out that there is already a project and basic infrastructure for the area and that the engineering project was is a way of increasing the project’s attractiveness. He also said that Petrobras will be able to make its pipeline system available after negotiating with the future investor.
