Due to more intense levels of rain that rendered the sugarcane harvest impractical, the second fortnight of the 2023-2024 harvest saw a slower rate of output than the previous cycle. The 2023-2024 sugarcane crush declined by 12.54% (21 million tons) when compared to 24.01 million in the crop of 2022–2023. The year-to-date sugarcane crush totaled 34.82 million tons in the 2023–2024 cycle, up 18.82% from the 29.30 million tons recorded during the same time period in the previous cycle. The quality of the raw material increased, resulting in an increase of 2.34% in the level of Total Recoverable Sugars (ATR) per ton of sugarcane in the second half of April, from 110.22 kg per ton in the harvest of 2022–2023 to 112.79 kg in the current cycle.
