CANA/UNICA: CENTRAL-SOUTH’S SUGAR PRODUCTION UP 4.6%

Brazil’s Center-South region crushed 548.28 million tons of sugarcane in total during the 2022/23 cycle (April 2022 to March 2023)—a 4.61% increase over the 524.10 million tons produced during the 2021/22 cycle. The Sugarcane Technical Center reported that the average agricultural output during the harvest of 2022/2023 was 73.3 tons of sugarcane per hectare (CTC). This outcome reflects an 8.1% improvement over the previous cycle. The improved weather, especially during the summer of 2022, is a contributing cause to the increase in output, according to Unica. In contrast to the previous cycle’s 32.07 million tons, the harvest of 2022/2023 saw a total sugar production of 33.73 million tons, an increase of 5.16%.
