Brazilian ports reached a historic milestone in 2024, with 1.32 billion tons moved, marking a 1.18% increase compared to the previous year. The public ports stood out, growing by 5.13%, especially in Santos, Itaguaí, and Paranaguá. Containerized cargo grew by 20%, totaling 153.33 million tons, with highlights in plastics, chemicals, and iron & steel. This growth was driven by investments in modernization and infrastructure, with R$ 1 billion invested in 2024 and an additional R$ 1.7 billion expected for 2025. The port movement directly impacts trade and the trade balance, which saw a surplus of US$ 74.5 billion. However, the drought affected inland navigation, reducing cargo movement in waterways such as the Paraguay River.
