BRAZIL: RECORD WHEAT CROP IN 2022

Brazil’s Supply Company (Conab) forecast that Brazilian wheat production can reach 8.4 million tons in 2022, an increase of 8% compared to the previous season (7.6 million tons). The record crop forecast is driven by the states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul, which account for 90% of all wheat production in Brazil. Rio Grande do Sul is expected to have the largest wheat production in history, with 3.9 million tons, up 12% from last year. The planted area in the state of Rio Grande do Sul is the largest since 1980, with 1.4 million hectares. The state of Parana is also expected to break a record. The State Department of Rural Economy (Dereal) estimates 3.8 million tons, up 21% from last season. Wheat exports are intense. According to the Ministry of Economy, Brazil shipped 2.5 million tons of wheat from January to June this year. The country exported just under half (1.120 million tons) in the entire last year.
