In 2022, São Paulo exported USD 25.92 billion and imported USD 5.10 billion in agricultural commodities. In comparison to 2021, the State increased foreign sales by 36.4% and imports by 11.4%, resulting in a USD 20.82 billion surplus. The main exporting sectors in São Paulo were the sugar and alcohol complex (USD 8.43 billion, with sugar accounting for 84.1% and alcohol accounting for 15.9%), meat sector, soy complex, forestry products, and juices. The sugar-alcohol sector accounts for 32.5 percent of São Paulo exports, with major buyers including China (15.6%), the European Union (6.9%), Morocco (5.9%), Algeria (5.3%), Nigeria (5.1%), South Korea (5.0%), and other countries (56.3%).
