The sugarcane harvest in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions, comprising 92% of the expected processing for the 2023/24 season, witnessed a 2.5% growth by the end of the first fortnight of March, crushing 57.38 million tons. Sugar production surged by 9.3%, totaling 3.36 million tons compared to last year. NovaBio’s data also indicate an 11.8% increase in hydrous ethanol production, reaching 1.09 billion liters, while anhydrous biofuel experienced a 10.9% decline. Despite ethanol price recovery, sugar export remains lucrative due to international market demand and favorable exchange rates. NovaBio’s executive president, Renato Cunha, underlines the stability in sugar production and the challenges facing ethanol pricing policies.
