Sugarcane milling in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions increased by 1.9% in the 2024/25 harvest, reaching 16.8 million tons compared to 16.48 million in the previous cycle, according to NovaBio. Sugar production rose by 20.6%, totaling 719,000 tons by the end of September 2024. However, anhydrous ethanol production dropped by 30.3%, while combined ethanol production fell by 2.4%. Ethanol stock increased by 26.7%, reaching 345.9 million liters. Rainfall between August and September was below average, which could impact sugarcane productivity in the coming months. NovaBio’s CEO, Renato Cunha, emphasized the importance of maintaining sugar content (ATR) in the upcoming harvests and noted concerns over productivity due to the dry conditions.
