Port authority Companhia Docas de São Sebastião issue a directive to encourage the transport of project cargo at the public terminal. According to the state-owned company, the berthing fees for project cargo went from BRL 417.62 per tonne to a discount rate of BRL 53.60 per tonne, an 87.16% waiver. The measure offers financial benefits for port operators, which should speed up movement at the terminal since, by definition, such goods require customized care given their height, width, and weight, higher than those of typical dimensions. The decision should also mobilize operational and land infrastructure for these operations. The tariff discount is supported by the Federal Government’s effort to standardize the tariffs charged in all Brazilian ports, which changed the time criteria previously used to determine the cost of the fees to a tonne per unit criteria.
