In the first four months of 2023, the port of Sao Francisco do Sul handled 5 million tons of cargo, up 20.7% from the 4.1 million tons handled during the same period last year. This is the biggest movement the port complex has ever seen over the first six months of a year. With 2.8 million tons, exports made up 57% of all products handled. With 2.6 million tons, grains (corn and soybean) top the list of goods exported. Imports accounted for 2.1 million tons in these four months, or 43% of the port’s handling. Fertilizers (746 thousand tons) and the metallurgical sector (1.1 million tons) made up the bulk of the imports.
