PORT OF PECÉM ANNOUNCES NEW SHIP BERTH READY BY 2029

The Port of Pecém, in Fortaleza’s metropolitan region, will add an eleventh mooring berth by 2029, increasing its capacity to handle the expected doubling of cargo movement due to the completion of the Transnordestina Railway. Hugo Figueirêdo, president of the Pecém Industrial Port Complex (CIPP), announced this during the 2024 first-half results presentation. Currently operating with ten berths, the new berth will be at the Multipurpose Terminal. Berth 5 will primarily support cargo from the Transnordestina Railway, expected by 2027. Additionally, berth 2 will be expanded to facilitate green hydrogen transportation by 2029. The CIPP board approved a R$1 billion investment over five years to enhance infrastructure. The fruit harvest season is expected to boost port operations in the second half of 2024.
