PESTICIDE IMPORTS UP 95% AT PARANAGUA CONTAINER TERMINAL

TCP, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal, recorded a 95% increase in the movement of pesticides between January and August 2022, compared to the same period in 2021. The terminal received more than 166 thousand tonnes of the product. However, challenges in foreign trade, government benefits, and market strategies of importers impacted growth. The new batch of approvals by the federal government authorizing the importation of new pesticides contributed to the increase in the sector’s movement. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2021 alone, 562 new types of pesticides were authorized to enter the market. Another reason for the surge in imports is the dry climate, which makes the environment conducive to the proliferation of pests and insects.
