The sugarcane harvest in Mato Grosso do Sul has broken all previous records by producing more than 50.5 million tons of sugarcane. The harvest resulted in the production of 2.1 million tons of sugar and 3.7 billion liters of ethanol. The area planted for the current season was over 800,000 hectares, out of which 650,000 hectares were harvested by the end of February. This year’s output of 3.7 billion liters of ethanol, made from sugarcane and corn, surpassed the previous record. In 2022–2023, the amount of ethanol harvested from corn alone produced 714.5 million liters. A 34% rise in output is anticipated for the following 2023–2024 crop, reaching 960 million liters.
