The Port of Itaguaí has recently improved its operational capabilities by increasing its maximum depth from 17.8 meters to 18.3 meters in its main channel and the channel of Ilha das Cabras. According to Julia Crisóstomo, the Waterway Access Manager at the Port of Itaguaí, the expansion was made possible after the Rio de Janeiro Port Authority authorized the increase in operational depths, which came into effect on April 10th with the publication of a new ordinance that changed the register of depths for the port complex’s channels and basins. In addition, completing rock removal and maintenance dredging works last year contributed to the successful deepening of the port.
