Soybean imports by the European Union (EU) in the 2021/22 market year, which ended on June 30, reached 14.54 million tonnes, down 6% compared to the volume imported in the previous cycle, showed data published by the European Commission on July 05. The volume imported from Brazil, the largest global supplier of the oilseed, grew to a share of almost 60%, considering all EU purchases in 2021/22, about 8.5 million tons. EU soybean meal imports in 2021/22 totaled 16.50 million tons, 4.5% below the previous market year. Brazil, whose primary soybean meal customer is the EU, was the country that sold the most to the bloc, securing a 45.3% share and surpassing Argentina, which leads the way in exports of processed soybeans. Palm oil imports stood at 4.80 million tons, 12% below the volume imported in 2020/21.
