EU ambassadors agreed to delay the implementation of the deforestation law until December 2025, after pressure from some member states and major exporters like Brazil and Malaysia. The law, initially set to begin in December 2023, aims to curb deforestation by requiring companies to prove that products like beef, coffee, and palm oil do not contribute to forest destruction. It targets deforestation-free areas since December 31, 2020. Large operators must comply by December 2025, while small and medium-sized companies have until June 2026. The postponement awaits a vote in the European Parliament.
