BRAZIL’S DIESEL IMPORTS FELL IN FEBRUARY, STONEX SAYS

Brazil’s diesel imports fell by 16.8% in February 2024 from the same month the previous year, according to consulting company StoneX. This is explained by a rise in the amount of biodiesel mixed into gasoline supplied at gas pumps and an increase in the availability of diesel from domestic refineries. Brazil imported 869 million liters of diesel in February, with 62% of that oil coming from Russia, 30% from the United Arab Emirates, and 8% from the United States. Since 2023, Russia has emerged as Brazil’s main supplier of diesel, with its product available at a lower price than that of other suppliers. According to StoneX, domestic refineries produced 3.92 billion liters of pure A diesel (without the addition of biodiesel) in January, a 5.9% rise over the previous year.
