Despite facing adverse weather conditions and crop challenges, Brazil will consolidate its leading position in the global sugar market in 2025 and 2026. For the 2024-2025 cycle, Alvean expects to produce 39.5 million tons of sugar in the Center-South of Brazil, a figure that may vary depending on weather conditions and decisions about closing industrial operations. For the following harvest, the expectation is to reach 40 million tons. Brazil accounts for 50% of the world’s sugar supply, and exports have reached historic records: 19 million tons in 2023 and 26 million in 2024. According to Julio Adorno, Alvean’s Head of Brazil, this performance reflects the efficiency of the Brazilian sugar industry and the greater operational capacity at grain terminals. “Global sugar stocks remain low, with no replenishment in the last two years. Brazilian sugar is rapidly consumed, and the world increasingly relies on this production to meet demand,” Adorno emphasized.
