Brazil’s National Supply Company (Conab) slightly increased the estimate for the 2021/22 cycle, and the country is now expected to produce 272.5 million tons of grains, an increase of 6.7% when compared to the previous period (up 17 million tons). “The current crop is the largest ever produced, even though it has gone through adverse weather conditions in some producing states, such as the states of the Southern region. That means an increase of 0.4%, or 1.22 million tons, helped by corn and wheat,” Conab said. The total area planted with grains is expected to increase by 4 million hectares (5.8%), to 73.8 million hectares. Corn planted area increased by 8.6% or 1.7 million hectares, and soybeans’ area, 4.5% or 1.8 million hectares. The area planted with wheat reached 182.1 thousand hectares, an increase of 6.6%. According to Conab, with about 60% of the 2nd corn harvest maturing and 28% harvested, total corn production is estimated at 115.6 million tons, up 32.8% over the previous cycle. In the 2nd crop alone, the output increased 45.6%, reaching close to 88.4 million tons.
