Total fertilizer imports grew by 14% in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year, totaling 17.8 million tons, according to Itaú BBA. The growth was boosted by potash. About 4.3 million tons were imported from Russia and 950 thousand tons from Belarus, the volume is similar to the same period in 2021. Russia sold the largest volume of fertilizer, 24% of the total imported. In June, about 1.6 million tons of potassium chloride were imported, up 62% from the same month last year. Canada was the leading potassium chloride importer, followed by Russia and Belarus. The volume of ammonium nitrate in the first half of the year declined 48% when compared to the same period in 2021, whereas monoammonium phosphate (MAP) imports increased 3.9% in June 2022 when compared to June 2021. Urea imports were 15.8% lower than in the same month last year (523 thousand tons).
