The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) published Ordinance No. 749 in the Official Gazette of the Union this Thursday (26). The Ordinance establishes the ePhyto Sanitary Certification System. The platform enables the online issuance of phytosanitary certificates, ensuring plant product health and expediting information exchange between countries. The issuance of digital certificates aims to facilitate Brazilian exports of plant-based products by securely and authentically transmitting data between the exporting and importing countries’ National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPO). The ePhyto system is expected to enhance efficiency in Brazilian exports, reduce operational costs, and minimize cargo storage time at ports. The issuance of electronic certificates will become mandatory starting January 13, 2025, when the Ordinance takes effect.
