Despite lower rainfall in July and August, sugar and ethanol production in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions continues to rise. By September 30, with 18% of the 2024-2025 sugarcane harvest completed, sugar production reached 719,000 tons, a 20% increase compared to the same period last year. Ethanol production, however, saw a slight decline, with a 30.3% drop in anhydrous biofuel production and a total ethanol output of 793 million liters, down 2.4% from the previous season. Sugarcane grinding increased by 1.9%, reaching 16.8 million tons. Ethanol stocks grew by 26.7%, reaching 345.9 million liters. Concerns remain about productivity in sugarcane regions if dry weather continues.
