Brazil’s corn exports slowed down in April this year. However, the sector remains hopeful of a record-breaking year. From January to April, shipments totaled 10.10 million tonnes. This is a 53% increase over the same period in 2019, when 6.6 million tonnes of cereal was shipped abroad. As a result, the overall performance for the year is expected to be close to 45 million tonnes, generating around US$ 12.3 billion, according to the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex). In terms of revenue, corn shipments totaled US$ 2.92 billion in the first four months of the year. The amount is 154% higher than in the same period in 2019 when the country invoiced US$ 1.15 billion.
