The Center-South region crushed 307,000 tons of sugarcane in the second half of January. The same time period last year saw no sugarcane crush. Sugarcane crushing increased by 3.78% to 542.39 million tons in the 2022–2023 cycle, when compared the same period of the 2021–2022 cycle, the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (UNICA) made it public on Friday (10). At the end of the fortnight, 13 units are still in operation in the Center-South, including 10 companies that produce ethanol from corn and three that crush sugarcane. Nine units were in operation during the same time frame in the 2021/22 season.
