Brazilian ports handled 311.6 million tons of agricultural cargo in 2022, an 8% increase over 2021. However, handling of soybeans fell by 11% last year, to 98 million tons. According to the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq), the loss in soybean production in the South during the 2021–2022 cycle was the key factor behind this decrease in comparison to the previous harvest. Corn experienced the largest transportation gain, handling 60.9 million tons, a 93.1% rise from 2021. The handling of wheat and sugar increased as well, with positive fluctuations of 0.4% and 7.3%, respectively.
