WHEAT PRODUCTION IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL REMAINS AT 3,7 MILLION TONS.

Persistent October rains and the spread of the gibberella fungus have delayed Rio Grande do Sul’s wheat harvest, though production is still estimated at 3.7 million tons. According to Emater/RS, only 40% of the crop has been harvested, and yields vary widely due to weather and low-tech farming methods. Conab projects productivity at 3.2 tons per hectare over 1.15 million hectares. Meanwhile, producers face low prices and limited government support. The federal plan to subsidize 148,000 tons through Pepro and PEP is seen as insufficient. The Wheat Sector Chamber plans to request more funds and liquidity measures to aid farmers.
