As COP30 reinforces Brazil’s climate leadership, the Port of Santos is positioning itself as a national pioneer in maritime decarbonization. The Santos Port Authority (APS) has invested around R$40.6 million since 2023 in tariff incentives for terminals and “green” ships that adopt sustainable practices, viewing these waivers as strategic investments. In partnership with the Valenciaport Foundation, APS is developing a Decarbonization and Energy Master Plan to transition port operations from fossil fuels to renewable energy within 22 months. Initiatives include pier electrification powered by the Itatinga Hydroelectric Plant, logistics optimization via smart systems, and future production of green hydrogen. APS also uses scientific GHG inventories to guide decisions and consolidate “green shipping corridors,” reinforcing its role as a hub for sustainable logistics.
