DATAGRO REDUCES ITS FORECAST FOR THE GLOBAL SUGAR SURPLUS TO 1 MILLION TONS PER HARVEST IN BRAZIL AND INDIA.

Global sugar surplus projections for the 2025/26 season have been cut to 1 million tons from 2.8 million previously, mainly due to lower production in Brazil and India, according to consultancy Datagro. The firm reduced its estimate for Brazil’s Center-South output to 40.8 million tons, citing early mill closures and a shift toward ethanol production, as biofuel prices remain stronger than sugar. Datagro also trimmed India’s forecast by 700,000 tons to 32.1 million due to excessive rainfall reducing sugar content. With raw sugar prices at their lowest in five years, major importers like China and Indonesia have increased purchases. Despite the decline in production, Brazil exported a record 4.2 million tons of sugar in October, Secex data shows.
