CBIO GENERATION IS EXPECTED TO GROW 6.6% IN 2026, ACCORDING TO ITAÚ BBA

The generation of decarbonization credits (CBios) in Brazil is projected to reach 44.7 million in 2026, a 6.6% increase from 2025, according to Itaú BBA. However, this output will remain slightly below the estimated net target of 45.1 million CBios, based on the government’s proposed goal of 48.1 million. The small gap between supply and demand should be filled by stockpiles carried over from 2025, expected to total 16.4 million CBios. In 2025, distributors are expected to retire 42.1 million credits, below their combined target of 49.5 million. So far this year, 35.79 million CBios have been issued, up 2% from 2024, while prices dropped 14% in October to R$35.30, 42% below the yearly average. Trading volume also fell 19% from September.
